5 Useful Things to Know Today: Aug. 25

There are lots of school related events happening today in North Potomac/Darnestown

1. There is a 40% possibility of thunderstorms today and some might be severe. Otherwise, it will be cloudy with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the upper 60s.

2. Today from 1pm to 3pm, seniors interested in putting their home on the market are invited to attend a seminar on how to prepare your home before listing it. The event is at Ingleside at King Farm, a community care retirement center in Rockville. The event is open to the public. Eric Stewart, a real estate agent and host of WMAL’s “The Eric Stewart Show,” along with Susie Danick, will help seniors “rightsize” their homes during his presentation called “Preparing Your Home for Today's Market.” Find out about the moving process and tips on showing your home, as well. 3. Tonight, parents of incoming kindergartners and new students at Thurgood Marshall ES are invited to attend a meeting to get to know the school and staff. 4. Incoming 6th graders for area Middle Schools, including Ridgeview, Lakelands Park, Robert Frost, and Cabin John, will have a back to school “mini-day” today. Beginning at 7:55am, each student will complete their scheduled school day in shortened form over 3 and a half hours. Students will meet their teachers, learn the locations of their lockers and get some practice navigating the hallways.

5. At Ridgeview Middle, there will also be a new student open house at 6:30pm for all interested people. Tours of completed sections of phase one of the renovation will be available for all of the school community. Families of current students are encouraged to come check it out.
