Best Picks for the Weekend
Haunted House tours, pumpkin picking, and family events.
Halloween is just a week away. That means it's time to pick out your pumpkins, get your costume ready and even visit a haunted house or two. We have found the best places and events for you to visit to get you ready for the holiday, as well as other fun fall activities in our area.
Friday:
-- Take a trip up to Little Bennet National Regional Park for a night hike led by a parks naturalist from 6 to 8 p.m.
-- If you're a Quince Orchard Cougar, go support your football team as they take on Seneca Valley.
-- Check out the opening night of Wootton High School fall musical: Wootton High School: A Decade of Hits!
Saturday:
-- It's the 24th annual Montgomery County Community Service Day. Visit the Volunteer Center's website to find a project near you.
-- Darnestown Swim and Racquet Club are calling all disc golf fans to come and take part in the first annual Oktoberfest Disc Golf Tournament. RSVP by Friday to enter.
-- Wootton High School turns 40. Whether you went to Wootton, go to Wootton, or will be going to Wootton in the future, the school invites you to come take a tour and learn about the school's 40 year history.
Sunday:
-- It's getting a little chilly outside, so how about having a picnic inside this weekend? Head over to Potomac for the "World's Largest Indoor Picnic." It's a fundraiser for the Silver Spring nonprofit A Wider Circle.
-- Check out the selection of Pumpkins at Butler's Orchard or Homestead Farm.
-- If you're ready for a Halloween scare, take a tour of the Nightmare Mansion. It's been called the "Number one haunted attraction in the region."
