Public Hearing For CCT Wednesday Evening

Maryland Transit Administration will present plan modifications proposed in the Supplemental Environmental Assessment.

Do you have an opinion on local transportation development?

Well, on Wednesday evening you have a chance to share those thoughts with the public. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is holding an open house and public hearing on plans for the The Corridor Cities Transitway (CCT).

The proposed CCT would be either a bus rapid transit or light rail that would run 14 to 16 miles from Shady Grove Metrorail Station to the COMSAT facility. It is also a necessary component for the Science City plans to move forward.

Starting at 4 p.m., the MTA will present modifications to the plan as suggested in the Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA).

The SEA made several modifications to the original CCT plan focused on the environmental impact to three areas: the Crown Farm development, the Life Sciences Center and the Kentlands.

Among the modifications suggested in the enviromental impact is a change to limit the impact on historical sites, including the Belward Farm property. The full Supplemental Enviornmental Assesment is available online.

Maps of the plans will be available for the public to view beginning at 4 p.m. at The Activity Center at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. Public testimony begins at 6 p.m.

Elected officials will be given the opportunity to speak first. All comments are limited to three minutes per speaker.

Great - just hope this is now moving forward as light rail. We have waited too long for this - considering that some of us have been living with the promise for publuic transportation for a decade!
