Rockafellas Bar and Grill To Close After Super Bowl

The Gaithersburg restaurant will be replaced by a medical facility, owner Bill Tempchin said.

Super Bowl Sunday will be a last hurrah for not only the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, but also a Gaithersburg sports bar.

Rockafellas Bar and Grill owner Bill Tempchin told Patch Tuesday afternoon the restaurant will close its doors following Super Bowl XLVII.

"That's happening," Tempchin said. "I guess there's a story there but I'm not willing to talk about it...It's peaceful, it's been planned."

Gaithersburg Director of Economic Development Tom Lonergan said rumors of Rockafellas' closing "have been circulating for some time" and he had fielded some inquiries over the past few months from prospective businesses that were interested in the space.

Tempchin said it will be replaced by a medical facility, but he was not sure of its name. Lonergan couldn't confirm the future tenant.

The final weekend at Rockafellas will feature a band or DJ on Friday night, Solomons Gold band Saturday night at 9 p.m. (who Tempchin called "one of our favorite bands") and Super Bowl Sunday.

Tempchin said the restaurant will be auctioning off all of its items, from kitchen appliances to television sets through Rasmus.com. The items are currently available to view on the auction site before the live auction begins Friday, Feb. 8.

:( The food is the best. The Macho Nachos...oh and the Crab & Cow Medallions are certainly going to be missed. We just held my husbands birthday party there. Very sorry to see it go!

That is too bad for us that live nearby! The food and service were average at best, but it was nice having someplace so close and convenient. I was hoping another restaurant would take the space, but life goes on!

You can go bid on everything from the restaurant and bar (including 15 flat screen LCD TV's and the leather couches) at rasmus.com now! The auction closes on Friday!
