Thefts From Vehicles Continue In North Potomac

Six incidents of larceny from vehicles were reported in the recent crime summary.

Six incidents of larceny from vehicles were reported in the North Potomac-Darnestown area between Dec. 26 and Dec. 28.

The Montgomery County Police Department released the following information about the incidents in their recent crime summary on Thursday:

  • A theft from vehicle occurred overnight Dec. 26-27 between 8:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. in the 11400 block of Cephise Court in North Potomac. Items taken included a laptop computer and several golf balls. 
  • A theft from vehicle occurred overnight Dec. 26-27 between 8:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. in the 11400 block of Cephise Court in North Potomac. Nothing was taken.
  • A theft from vehicle occurred Dec. 27 at 5:00 a.m. in the 14400 block of Rich Branch Drive in North Potomac. Cash was taken.
  • A theft from vehicle occurred overnight Dec. 27 between 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. in the 14800 block of Dufief Drive in North Potomac. Nothing was taken. 
  • A theft from vehicle occurred overnight between Dec. 27-28 in the 13700 block of Travilah Road in Gaithersburg. Tools were taken. 
  • A theft from vehicle occurred overnight Dec.26-27 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:05 a.m. in the 11200 block of Trippon Court in North Potomac. A wallet was taken.

Thefts from vehicles have been common in the area, but police have said in the past that large spikes of incidents are uncommon. In addition, they've offered the following tips:

  • Always lock your vehicle and roll up all windows.
  • Remove valuables from your vehicle.
  • If valuables must be stored in the vehicle, remove them from plain sight.
  • If possible, park in well-lit and populated areas.
  • Install an alarm system.
  • Don’t leave spare keys in your vehicle.
