Sharing a 100th Birthday: A Rockville Resident and JCCGW Both Hit the Century Mark

Morris Erger of Rockville, a holocaust survivor and an active member of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington celebrated his 100th birthday Tuesday at the JCCGW, which also marks its 100th year of serving the needs of the Jewish community in 2013.

Erger works out three to four times a week in the JCC’s fitness center, does tai chi at home, frequently attends JCC lectures and educational programs—and reads several newspapers each day on his iPad.

Erger’s centennial birthday is the unofficial kickoff of the JCC’s 100th birthday, which will be celebrated throughout 2013. The Official JCCGW 100th Birthday Party scheduled for Jan. 6 will include a birthday cake contest, childrens’ inflatables and giveaways, dance and music performances and more.

The opening of the annual Washington Jewish Film Festival also is set for Jan. 6, with the screening of the highly-acclaimed “Hava Nagila.”
