More About Darnestown Elementary School
One of the oldest schools in Montgomery County, Darnestown Elementary first began offering classes in 1954. Today the school serves kindergarten through 5th grade and continues to take pride in the school and community history. Each year the students participate in a Darnestown History day in May and a Colonial Day in April.
Darnestown Elementary was included in the 2010 Capitol Improvement Budget for Expansion. The school could have an expansion finished as soon as fall 2013 to make room for extra students. Currently 4th and 5th grade classes are housed in six portable classrooms behind the main building.
This is a "resource- and home-school model" school, meaning all special needs of students are met in the building through extra support staff.
