A FILM FESTIVAL

IN CELEBRATION OF “RAGTIME”

DECEMBER 7 & 14 (2:30pm)

AFTER SCHOOL-AUDITORIUM

 

The Film Festival is in celebration of Wootton’s 2013 spring stage production of the musical “Ragtime”.  All students, teachers, and Wootton Families are invited to join us for the screenings free of charge. Student musical entertainment before each show.

Friday, December 7, 2012 :“Citizen Kane”   

2:30 : Intro Speaker : Debbie Cenziper- Pulitzer Prize winning Washington Post Investigative Journalist.

Debbie will provide a unique insight in this classic film based upon the life of William Hearst, an American newspaper publisher who built the largest newspaper chain in the nation in the early 1900's. She will speak first hand about the Pulitzer Prize, Joseph Pulitzer the publisher, and his dealings with Hearst. Finally, she will provide an overview of the important ingredients that make this film one of, if not the best of all time.

 Friday, December 14, 2012 :“The Sting” 

2:30 Intro Speaker: “Perfessor” Bill Edwards – ragtime scholar and performing preservationist,

Bill will discuss popular music at the turn of the century, the evolution of ragtime music, Scott Joplin, “The Entertainer”, how the adaptation of this song by Marvin Hamlisch ended up as the theme song in a post ragtime era film, and the resurgence of ragtime music in the 1970’s.
