St. Mary’s Catholic Church, at 520 Veirs Mill Road, will be kicking off a series of events to celebrate its Bicentennial Year on Aug. 22. The earliest recorded ceremony attributed to the parish, a baptism, was in the summer of 1813. See the announcement at Rockville Patch.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Upcounty Citizens Advisory Board. The 20-member board advises county officials on the needs and priorities of northern Montgomery County. The deadline for application is Aug. 28. Details are available at the county’s website.
