5 Things You May Find Useful Today: Aug. 3

Little bites of news that you just can't live without.

Good morning North Potomac and Darnestown!

1)  Get ready for an unpredictable day of weather! The Weather Channel predicts a high of 90, a low of 70 and a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Clouds are also expected throughout the day.

2)  Hungry? Oyster PoBoys, crepes and bourbon bread pudding are just some of the accoutrements that are available today at the Shady Grove Farmers' and Artisans' Market. Stop by and pick up local fruits and vegetables, meats, plants, eggs and more. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Johns Hopkins Montgomery County campus, 9601 Medical Center Drive, Rockville. For more information email shadygrovemarket@gmail.com or call 301-792-9448.

3)  Kids go back to school August 29! That leaves 26 days to get organized. Montgomery County Public Schools reports that many schools have already posted their school supplies lists online. And for the schools that haven’t, back-to-school letters, including the list, will soon be sent out. Target in Rockville and at Washingtonian Center (the Rio) are chock full of supplies. Currently, backpacks and writing utensils are on sale, but school sales items change frequently. For additional ideas on getting prepared for back-to-school, check out our article featured Tuesday.

4)  Fall registration is now open at Studio 310, a dance and fitness studio located in Traville Village Center. Classes begin the week of September 8 for children and adults. The studio offers hip hop, cardio ballet, Zumba, power yoga, belly dancing and more. You can contact the studio directly at 301-219-0458, or visit their website at http://www.studio-310.com/aboutus.html.

5)  Now it’s time for some adult fun. Visit Growler’s of Gaithersburg on Wednesdays for food and beer specials and a live band. All day you pay $3 for select pints, 50 cents for wings, $1.50 for oysters and $5 for a personalized pizza. Tonight’s band is Slow Dance Chubby, a rock band featuring pop and top 40 hits. Check out Growler's event calendar online or call 301-519-9400.
