5 Things You May Find Useful Today: Aug. 4

Little bites of news that you just can't live without.

Get ready for a rockin’ Thursday North Potomac and Darnestown!

1) Today’s weather forecast has a low chance of precipitation, which bodes well for the numerous outdoor activities taking place tonight. The high for the day is expected to be 87, and the low is 70. Tonight, when the festivities will be in their prime, the temperature is expected to stay around 80.

2) Starting tonight, the Universities at Shady Grove is hosting the 15th anniversary of the Comcast Outdoor Film Festival. At 8:30 p.m., the university will feature 2010 Academy Award nominated film “True Grit,” starring Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. The event is free and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds from food and beverage sales will benefit the National Institutes of Health Children’s Charities. The festival will feature a box office hit each night through Monday evening. Bring a blanket and enjoy the show! The Universities at Shady Grove is located at 9630 Gudelsky Drive in Rockville. Parking is free. For more information call 301-816-6958, or go online to www.filmfestnih.org.

4) The series at Rockville Town Square continues this evening with a live performance at 6 p.m. by Ruthie and the Wranglers, a “roots rock” band. Folks can bring a lawn chair or blanket and eat during the performance. The event is free. For more information, email Jill Powell at jpowell@federalrealty.com or call 301-998-8178.
