Taking the Red Line to or from Silver Spring, Takoma Park or Fort Totten this weekend will take a little longer than usual.
"Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, July 6, and continuing through system closing on Sunday, July 8, buses will replace Red Line trains between Brookland-CUA and Silver Spring to allow for tie and insulator renewal, bridge repair and communication system improvements," according to Metro's website.
Throughout the weekend, the Takoma Station will be closed, and the Fort Totten Station will be open for Green Line service only.
Free shuttle buses will operate between Silver Spring and Brookland-CUA, and will stop at Takoma Station and Fort Totten Station.
Red Line trains will operate in two segments this weekend:
- Between Glenmont and Silver Spring.
- Between Brookland-CUA and Shady Grove.
"On both segments, trains will operate every 10 minutes between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., and at regular weekend intervals at all other times," Metro's website reported.
"Customers traveling through the work zone should allow about 30 minutes of additional travel time," Metro's website added.
