North Potomac's Rene Shaw was crowned the first-ever Miss Travilah Oak.

Did you ever share a wish out loud and then have it actually come true? This was the case for Rene Shaw, who just celebrated a birthday last week.

Shaw had always wanted to be a queen of her own parade. Her friends Christine Zmuda, Jenn Meyer, Teri Troxell and Amy Bryan gave her a day she would not forget.

With makeshift floats they paraded Shaw from Travilah Elementary School to the Travilah Oak Market. Along Travilah Road, there were bystanders ready with signs, American flags, and noisemakers and they were treated to candy thrown from the various floats in the lineup.

Upon arriving at the Travilah Oak Market, Shaw was crowned "Miss Travilah Oak" under the 350-year-old oak tree. The reigning queen also was honored with a sandwich — The Rene Nicoise — named in her honor by Travilah Oak Market owner Al Vivano.
