Kentlands Firehouse Undergoes Scrutiny

City officials debate on what to do with the damaged building

Gaithersburg City Staff were asked to investigate and prepare a report on the state of the Kentland Firehouse, located at 321 Firehouse Lane in the Kentlands, across from the Arts Barn. The sixty year and becoming a drain on the city budget.

All told, city staff estimates the stabilization costs would total more than $191,000 (including a $20,000 contingency allowance).

At a work session on Monday evening, the Gaithersburg City Council seemed to be split on what to do with the Firehouse in the long run. Although they all agree that emergency repairs need to be done, they debated the fate of the firehouse, and the road that leads there.
