Some fun things to do this summer weekend

There are opportunities this weekend to help those less fortunate while also having fun with friends and family. Here's a glance at some of those events -

1.  A family affair

Where:  The Universities at Shady Grove, 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD 20850

When:  through Monday, August 8, 2011, 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

What:  Comcast Outdoor Film Festival. Each night a feature film is presented at 8:30 p.m. and food and beverages are available on site for purchase. Food sponsors including Potomac Pizza, Hard Times Café of Bethesda and Ben & Jerry’s. Popcorn, candy and beverages are also available for sale. Movie schedule: Friday, August 5 - Tangled; Saturday, August 6 - UP!; Sunday, August 7 – Toy Story 3; Monday, August 8 – Top Gun.

Price:  Free. Proceeds from food and beverage sales will go to the Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health.

2.  There’s nothing like a Farmer's Market on a summer morning

Where: King Farm, Mattie JT Stepanek Park, Pleasant Drive, Rockville, MD 20850

When: Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What:  Farmer’s Market – fresh foods from regional farmers including fruits, vegetables, handmade cheeses, artisan breads & pastries, honey, eggs, pottery, gifts & more! 

Price:  No entrance fee. Items sold individually at market. Information: farmersmarket@kingfarm.org

3.  Donate household items to local Habitat for Humanity chapter

Where:  Whole Foods Market, the Kentlands, 316 Kentlands Boulevard, Gaithersburg, Maryland 20878

When:  Saturday, August 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

What:  Whole Foods Market and Habitat for Humanity - Montgomery County are hosting a reusable collection event. Gently used household furniture, household items, appliances and books are requested. Trucks will be curb side ready to collect donated items.

4.  Local Blues ensemble for your listening pleasure

Where:  Beale Street Grill, 9712 Traville Gateway Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850

When:  Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 8 p.m.

What:  Live blues performance by Billy Thompson, Gene Monroe and Eric Selby

5.      Outdoor music festivities - fun for all

Where:  On the patio at Rio, Washingtonian Center, 9811 Washingtonian Boulevard, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

When:  Saturday, August 6 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

What:  Rio Summer Concert Series featuring oldies band dc motors
