first appeared on the local landscape in 1993 and was founded with the pure intention of providing fresh, whole grain, homemade bread using 100 percent natural ingredients.

The difference is in the flour. To preserve the exceptional flavor and nutritive value provided by whole grains, Spring Mill employs its own stone milling process to mill their own flour. The customers notice the difference.

Breads baked for the store on a daily basis include honey whole wheat, peasant white, apple streusel, 7 grain crunch and three seed healthy loaf. At least one of the cinnamon loaves like cinnamon swirl or cinnamon raisin is also available daily.

Flavorful herb loaves like big sky rye (onion dill) or zesty cheese breads like asiago pesto or garlic cheddar and other specialty breads are available on select days.  Check their website for the bake schedule.

Well known for the challah bread, Spring Mill bakes this customer favorite only on Fridays. 

Special for the Fourth of July, Spring Mill will offer fresh cherry and blueberry pies, and a red, white and blue cake with buttercream icing and berries on top.

“Sometimes you have to special order certain breads,” says N. Potomac/Gaithersburg store employee Rebecca Norton, “like the gluten-free Spelt bread which is baked only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”

And since we can’t live on bread alone, Spring Mill also bakes and sells baguettes, cookies, muffins, brownies, scones, sweet bread loaves and an assortment of jams and jellies to enjoy them with.

Spring Mill Bread Company’s N. Potomac/Gaithersburg store is located in the Potomac Valley Shopping Center at 12187 Darnestown Road. Open hours are Mon. through Fri., 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Sat 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. and closed Sun.
