Bites Nearby: Wine Harvest

A local wine shop where you can drink, eat and stay awhile, European style.

The Wine Harvest wants to give customers more than an experience of just great wine. It's goal is to give customers a great wine experience at great prices with the ambiance of a European café.

“Our concept is to offer a better bottle of wine for a much lower cost than what you would find in a restaurant,” said Stan Cohen, general manager at the Kentlands location.

Customers can order a bottle of wine at a competitive retail price, and for a small corkage fee, enjoy it on the premises.

Recent changes in Maryland law now allow customers to take home opened bottles of wine. “This has been a big attraction for us,” said Cohen, “that our customers can come here, select a bottle of wine, have a glass or two and take the rest home.”

Wine Harvest has a mouth-watering selection of cheese platters—goat cheese and hazelnuts, baked brie, duck pate mousse, fresh mozzarella, manchego and quince—to complement your selection from the 400 wines in the cellar.

And if you bring your appetite, Wine Harvest’s menu has a terrific selection of sandwiches and salads in European café style. Try the Blue Moon sandwich (roast beef, bleu cheese, red onion and tomato), or turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich (turkey breast, cream cheese and cranberry sauce). For lighter fare, we suggest the apple bleu cheese salad (romaine lettuce, granny smith apples, bacon, bleu cheese and choice of dressing).

Wine Harvest has special wine tastings throughout the year. The next tasting will be Monday, Sept. 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Potomac location with Cousino-Macul Winery of Chile. The tasting is free and open to the public. Check the website for future news and events at thewineharvest.com.

Wine Harvest is located in the Kentlands at 114 Market St. Hours: Monday-Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday noon to 10 p.m.

The Potomac location is 12525-B Park Potomac Ave.
