Grab and Go Kids: Feb 18 - 20

Fun things to do with the kids this weekend.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research to find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance with your kids this weekend.

Each week, we put together a weekly calendar of five kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children for the coming weekend.

1. MUSCIO THE MAGICIAN – Potions for Piano

Why Go: Drew Owen is Musico the Magnificent and also a professional Cello player! He brings in professional musicians to show kids all the ways that music can performed on different instruments. The Saturday show is all about the piano and is part of a series that features a different instrument each Saturday. The show runs 45 minutes.

2. KID MOVIES: Justin Beiber: Never Say Never” and “Tangled

Why Go: Movies are always a great break for the family. These two films have gotten some great reviews from kids and adults.

3. BLACK HISTORY MONTH TOURS of Josiah Henson Historic Site 

Where: 11420 Old Georgetown Road, N. Bethesda, MD 20852

When: Saturdays, February 12, 19, 26 – 12:00 noon - 3:00 pm

Why Go: The parks department is giving free guided tours of the Josiah Henson Historic Site during Black History Month. Reverend Josiah Henson was a working slave on the Isaac Riley plantation at this location. He ran away using the Underground Railroad to freedom in Canada. Later he wrote his autobiography, on which Harriet Beecher Stowe's based her famous novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin.

4. GERMANTOWN INDOOR SWIM CENTER 

Where: 18000 Central Park Circle, Boyds, MD

When: Every Saturday public swim from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., every Sunday public swim from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Why Go: Fabulous recreation pool with three story high slides as well as smaller slides, baby pool, waterfalls, jacuzzis and a dry sauna. Also, olympic style diving platforms for the older kids.

5. LAKEFOREST SUMMER CAMP EXPO

Where: Lakeforest Mall, 701 Russell Ave, Gaithersburg, MD

When: Saturday, February 19, 2011 and Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Find out about kid summer camps in the area. Exibitors from summer camps and various recreation, sporting and creative schools will be available to talk to parents about summer programs.
