High Winds Knock Out Power For Hundreds

Nearly one hundred still without power in North Potomac and Darnestown late Friday.

Nearly one hundred houses around North Potomac and Darnestown were still without power late Friday night.

Pepco reported 30 houses without power in the 20874 zip code and 48 without power in the 20878 zip code on the StormCenter website.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency warned residents to use caution in light of high winds Friday night.

Pepco said they had prepared for the storm by sending crews out early.

"We called in crews yesterday and we're getting the crews out there," Pepco spokesperson Bob Hainey said. "We've got tree trimming crews and we've got contract and our regular crews."

But high winds prevented crews from accessing some poles until the storm subsided, he said.
