Highly Specialized Physician Joins Area Digestive Health Group: Capital Digestive Care adds Advanced Interventional Endoscopist

Capital Digestive Care is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Faisal Bhinder, the group’s newest gastroenterologist. With experience in general gastroenterology and geriatric medicine, Dr. Bhinder is an advanced interventional therapeutic endoscopist with special expertise in the newer modalities such as Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Radio Frequency ablation (RFA), deep Small Bowel Enteroscopy, and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR).

“Dr. Bhinder’s specialized skillset enhances the continuum of care for our patients,” said Dr. Mark Birns, Capital Digestive Care gastroenterologist and managing partner of the Birns, Gloger & Witten (BGW) division. “Advanced endoscopic procedures are needed for patients with complex digestive diseases that require specialized treatments that would normally be referred to a tertiary care center. Dr. Bhinder’s experience will allow many of these patients to stay within the same network – and keep their physician – throughout their treatment.”

Dr. Bhinder is also trained to perform advanced therapeutic procedures with Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for treatment of biliary and pancreatic disease and is proficient as well as authored in Wireless Capsule Enteroscopy (WCE).

A graduate of the King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, Dr. Bhinder completed his residency in internal medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, followed by fellowships in gastroenterology and geriatric medicine. Upon completion of his training, he established Calvert Gastroenterology and served as Chief of Gastroenterology and Director of Endoscopy at Calvert Memorial Hospital in southern Maryland. After five years in practice, he pursued additional advanced training in interventional endoscopy at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainsville.

Dr. Bhinder is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Geriatric Medicine. Fluent in Urdu, Punjabi and Arabic, Dr. Bhinder will see patients at Capital Digestive Care’s Birns, Gloger & Witten offices in Rockville and Urbana, Md.
