I hope everyone is looking forward to having a wonderful Wednesday like I am. Here are some things you should know that are happening around the area.

1. According to WJLA, today's forecast will be a hot and humid one with the high at 90 and the low at 61. There's practically no chance of rain so there won't be any need for those new pair of rain boots you just bought.

2. The Washington Nationals' Stephen Strasburg will make his second start for the Potomac Nationals this Friday after suffering a season-ending injury last September. The team will face the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in a three-game series.

3. Robyn Gardner of Gaithersburg, Md. went missing Aug. 2 in Aruba and local authorities recently detained the man she was vacationing with. She was last heard of on Aug. 2 after leaving a Facebook post reading "the 16. I can communictate here." Check out more details on WTOP and our

5. Today in 1821, the Show-Me state of Missouri was admitted into the then Union as a slave state through the Missouri Compromise. When the controversial Kansas-Nebraksa Act of 1854 passed allowing both states to choose whether or not to support slavery, those who opposed the act thought it would lead to a slavery takeover. This led the U.S. into the Civil War. Show Missouri some love today by proving to people your best qualities through your actions, not your words.
