5 Useful Things to Know Today: Aug 29

School and hurricane recovery

1. It's going to be beautiful day in North Potomac. Except for a few afternoon clouds it will be mainly sunny with a high of 79F and light breezes.

2. School is ON! Although some schools in MCPS are still without power, all of the North Potomac and Darestown area schools are open. The first day of school is today, so watch for buses, extra traffic, and pedestrians in school zones.

3. Backpacks and school supplies that were to be available at the cancelled Back-to-School Fair, for families in need, will be distributed, while supplies last, on Monday, August 29 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, in Rockville.

4. If you or anyone you know still has issues with their electricity, check outage information on their storm center map or call PEPCO at 877-737-2662

5. Did you have any damage after the hurricane? Patch gives suggestions  on the way to utilize your home owners insurance to get your claim paid.
