5 Useful Things to Know Today: July 21

Here are a few things you might like to know to start your day in North Potomac and Darnestown.

Today will give new meaning to the word swelter. But if you refuse to let the heat have the final word, then here are a few things to look forward to if you choose to venture out today.

1. Consider yourself officially warned. There will be record high heat today with plenty of sun and a high temperature of 98 degrees. The heat index will be near 105 degrees. Tonight, clear skies with a low of 78 degrees.

2. Tuesdays and Thursdays in July Michael's Crafts in the Kentlands is featuring Crafts Around the World. Today's class, which meets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., celebrates the country of Greece.

3. Rockville Library will be holding a special event from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Green Golly and the Treasure of Light, a musical story for ages 5 & up, will be performed by Flute Sweets & Tickletoons. Don't miss this enchanting story that tells how Green Golly escapes her tower and makes a discovery that takes her on a trip all over the globe.

4. Celebrate "Thirsty Thursdays" at Potomac Pizza, where all day you can enjoy $2 beer or half priced bottles of wine.
