5 Useful Things to Know Today: July 29

Today seems like a good day to muster up a little bit of enthusiasm for the coming weekend. Here are some ideas to get you inspired.

1. The weather today will have a few passing clouds, otherwise generally sunny, but getting back to near record high temperatures. High expected to be around 98F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

2. Get to the public pools before the weekend crowd! There are two close by - Germantown Outdoor Pool at 18905 Kingsview Road, Germantown, MD 20874 (240) 777-8067  and Water Park at Bohrer Park, 512 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877-2325 (301) 258-6445 ‎

3. Gaithersburg has free concerts  every Friday in the summer. Tonight at 7pm, the band Soul Fusion  will play at the Gaithersburg City Hall concert Pavilion 301-258-6350

4. For more music, visit the Washingtonian Center's Rio Summer Concerts. They present live music every Friday and Saturday night on RIO's patio, near the paddle boat dock from 6pm to 9pm. Tonight's group is the rock band, Diamond Alley.

5. See the movie, 'SOUL SURFER' for free at 7:30pm. They will show this movie on a large screen at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church  in Gaithersburg and have an intermission reception, too. This commercial movie is the inspirational true story of Bethany Hamilton, a teen surfing champion who overcomes the odds after a shark attack takes one of her arms (rated PG). This is a great evening for the teenager in your life.

There will also be a Family Night screening at 6 pm on Saturday, July 30 with a separate movie in fellowship hall for kids: Disney classic 'The Little Mermaid.'
