5 Useful Things To Know Today: Nov. 11

Five things to help you through your Friday.

Ladies and gentlemen of North Potomac and Darnestown, it's 11-11-11! That's an awful lot of number ones, but it can't be a bad thing. We'd also like to wish our men and women of the community who have served our country, past and present, a happy Veterans Day. We thank you for your service.

1. No rain is expected today but temperatures continue to drop, with a high of 51 degrees today. Wind gusts will blow up to 20 miles per hour and the wind chill will be in the high 30s and low 40s throughout the day.

2. The entire community is invited to join the City of Gaithersburg for its annual Veterans Day Observance at 11 a.m. at the City Hall Concert Pavilion, 31 South Summit Avenue in Gaithersburg.

3. Tonight at 's Cougar Dome, the undefeated QO football team battles Bethesda-Chevy Chase in the first round of the playoffs. The game starts at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to play the winner of Churchill-Gaithersburg.

4. In case you missed it: MCPS Superintendent Dr. Joshua Starr fielded many questions about the budget at a Student Town Hall meeting Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Quince Orchard High School.

5. On this day in history: The Mayflower Compact was signed by Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower in 1620. It would provide the basis for all governments of the American colonies. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was dedicated in Arlington National Cemetery in 1921.
