5 Useful Things to Know Today: Sept. 16

A beautiful Friday sets the scene for the start of your weekend.

1. If you can think of any excuse to get outside today, do it because mostly sunny days with a high of 65 degrees and a slight breeze won’t be coming around much longer. There is a 20 percent chance of rain at night.

2. When making plans for tonight, consider checking out the World Arts Festival at the Montgomery College Rockville campus. Brazilian guitarist Rogerio Souza will be performing at the Music Recital Hall. The performance is free for students and $10 for the public. 3. Looking for a fun activity for you and your child? Check out the Parent & Tot   Bargain skate at Cabin John Ice Arena. Located at 10610 Westlake Drive in Rockville, parents and their youngsters have the ice from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15. The $3.50 price of admission and rental skates but is for toddlers only.

4. Today is National POW/MIA (Prisoner of War/Missing in Action) Recognition Day in the United States. Take a moment to give thanks to those who put their lives in danger on a daily basis to maintain the freedoms of our country.

5. It’s Friday, and that can only mean high school football. Wootton is on the road at Damascus tonight at 6:30, and Quince Orchard travels to Paint Branch tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff between early unbeatens.
