UPDATED: Faulty Underground Cable Cause of North Potomac Power Outages

Just under 800 Pepco customers are without power around North Potomac and Darnestown.

Update, Aug. 10, 6:35 p.m.: The restoration time for residents living in the Mountain View Estates between Lloydminster and Falconbridge Drive has been postponed again. Residents can expect their power back at 8 p.m.

For residents near the Jones Lane and Triple Crown Road interesection, their time has been postponed to 10 p.m.

At 5:23 p.m. another power outage occurred for less than five households off Native Dancer Road. There is a crew working on the issue. Power is expected to be back at 10 p.m. for this location.

The cause of the power outage for these locations remains unknown.

Update, Aug. 10, 5:05 p.m.: Most residents in North Potomac now have power. However, 46 residents in the Mountain View Estates living between Lloydminster and Falconbridge Drive are still without power until 7 p.m.

At 4:52 p.m. less than five households near the Triple Crown Road and Jones Lane intersection remained without power. There is a crew handling the situation, but power is not expected to be restored for these households until 9 p.m.

Update, Aug. 10, 4:53 p.m.: The 6 p.m. restoration time for residents living between Lloydminster and Falconbridge Drive has been pushed back to 7 p.m.

Original Post, Aug. 10, 4:38 p.m.: A faulty underground cable left about 795 residents without power south of Darnestown Road and west of Quince Orchard Road at 1:13 p.m. There is a crew on-site and power is expected to be back by 5:30 p.m.

For those living south of Lloydminster Drive and north of Falconbridge Drive the reason for the outage is still unknown. Crews have not arrived yet, but the estimated time of restoration is 6 p.m., according to Pepco's StormCenter website.
