Things to do this weekend in Maryland

Saturday's weather forecast is calling for cloudy conditions, but not a lot of rain, so outdoor fun is still possible before the fringes of Hurricane Irene reach Maryland. Please use your judgement and the daily forecast when making decisions to be outdoors this weekend.

Where: Crownsville Rd in Annapolis, MD

When: Weekends through the end of October. Opening weekend is this Saturday and Sunday August 27-28, 10am-7pm.

What: This outdoor festival presents a full-day outdoor theatrical reproduction of medieval England, complete with sword fights, pompous royalty, dirty serfs, games, jugglers, turkey legs. There are roving shows, period merchants, and lot of fun for families.

Price: $9.00 for ages 7-15, $19.00 for adults, $16.00 for seniors. Coupons and group rates are available on the website.

2. MCPS Back To School Fair

Where: 850 Hungerford Dr, Rockville, MD 20850 (Carver Educational Services Center)

When: August 27, 2011, 12:00pm–3:00pm

What: This annual event offers parents and students a chance to speak with MCPS staff, find learning resources and enjoy a variety of kids activities with prizes. Free school supplies will be given to those in need. Shuttle bus service will be provided from various locations. Please see website for more details and a list of schools where shuttle buses will pick up.

3. Dog Days of August at Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyards

Where: Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyards ,18125 Comus Rd, Dickerson, MD 20842

When: August 27, 2011, 12:30pm–5:00pm

What: It's a day all about the dogs. The vinyard opens its property to you and your four-legged friends for an afternoon filled with presentations, vendors and performances. Josh Brown will be discussing training tips, Dr. Pooya of Greenbriar Veterinary Hospital will be on site to discuss dog health issues and Rob Thorworth will be performing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

4. The Maryalnd State Fair

Where: 2200 York Rd, Lutherville, MD 21093 (MD State Fairgrounds)

When: Every day from Friday, August 26 through Wednesday, Sept 5, 9am-10pm.

What: Couldn't get enough of the livestock, games, rides and shows at the county fair? Well, keep it going by attending the 10 day Maryland State Fair. This fair emphasizes horses and horse shows as well as some top name musical acts including teen singer, Selena Gomez, and country star, Blake Shelton.

Price: Adults: $8. Seniors (62 & over): $6. Children ages 6 to 11: $3, FREE for children 5 and under

5. School House Rock! Live! at The Arts Barn

Where: 311 Kent Square Rd, North Potomac, MD 20878

When: Saturday and Sunday, 2pm each day

What: The Emmy Award-winning 70's Saturday morning cartoon comes to life at The Arts Barn. Featuring favorites such as "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction". Great for all ages, especially children.

Price: $18 for non-residents, $16 for Gaithersburg residents, $9 for children and students
