Get Out: Patch's Weekend Guide

1. C&O History

When/Where: The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park is open daily from dawn to dusk. It is located in Potomac, Md. at 11710 MacArthur Blvd 20854-1659.

Why Go: There is a lot of interesting history in this area. Also, there are a number of visitor centers along the 184-mile long canal trail. The trail is dog friendly so the family can enjoy this together.

2. Montgomery County Fair

When/Where: The Montgomery County Fair starts this Friday, Aug. 12. It’s located in Gaithersburg, Md. The fair is on Route 355, across from Lakeforest Mall.

Why Go: This is a perfect opportunity to do something fun with the whole family and/or to meet people from the area. The fair has events that will satisfy every member of the family. Events range from a monster truck show to a cow milking demonstration.

Price: General admission is $10 and kids under 11 get in free. Also, a season pass can be purchased for $75. For more ticketing information go here.

3. Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard

When/Where: From June to August, the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is open from noon to six, seven days a week. It is located in Dickerson, MD at 18125 Comus Road 20842.

Why Go: The vineyard is a nice way to get away from the hustle and monotony of everyday life. There are a host of events occurring at the vineyard including their Stomp Festival in which visitors can learn how to make wine the "old school" way.
