Why Go: Every Saturday, Rockville's weekly farmers market offers a wide selection of fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, bedding plants, cut flowers, preserves, honey herbs and baked goods from local vendors.

Where/When: Meet at the Friendship Heights Village Center (4433 S. Park Ave., Chevy Chase) on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9:00 a.m.
Why Go: Join the first-ever mini-walk in the Village of Friendship Heights to support the Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship Place. A continental breakfast will be donated by Courtyard Marriott, and the walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Walkers will proceed down Wisconsin Avenue to the Friendship Place Welcome Center near Chesapeake Street. Round-trip, the walk will be about 2 miles long. To register online, visit the Help the Homeless Walkathon website. Fill in “Village of Friendship Heights” under "Name of Hosting Organization."
Pricing: $30 for adults 25 years old and up; $20 for walkers under age 25.
4. The Johnson's 15th Annual Haunted Forest
Where/When: Saturday, Oct. 29 from 7 to 10 p.m. at 11930 Cragwood Way, Potomac, MD
Why Go: Halloween scares and candy scattered throughout the haunted trail.
Pricing: Free, but donations are accepted for charity on behalf of Autism Speaks and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Additional proceeds go to local school PTSA programs as a thank you for the many students who volunteer their time at the Haunted Forest Charity Event.
Where/When: Saturday, Oct. 29, 10:30 a.m. at the Potomac Library, Potomac Library, 10101 Glenolden Dr, Potomac.
Why Go: Spooky storytime for preschoolers and their families. Wear costumes--there will be a costume parade.
