Get Out: Weekend Picks for Sept. 23-25

The final regular season weekend of Major League Baseball and a charity event highlight this weekend.

What: The Major League Baseball season is coming to a close and this is the last chance to see the Washington ballclub at home before the 2012 season. Pitcher Stephen Strasburg, the former No. 1 overall pick, takes the mound Friday night. Sunday is fan appreciation day. The Baltimore Orioles close their season next week against Boston.

Price: Anywhere from $10 to $170, depending on availability.

2. Junior Detective Day for Young Crime Solvers

Where: Kentlands Mansion, 320 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg, Md.

When: Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

What: Young crime solvers are invited to participate in training sessions to receive a Junior Detective Badge. Gaithersburg police officers will be on hand to guide participants through four different activities. Completion earns participants their Junior Detective Badge.

Price: Admission is $15 per person for children 12 and under, $20 per person for those 13 and older.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

3. A View from the Bridge presented by Rockville Little Theatre

Where: F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Dr., 20851

When: Friday (8 p.m.), Saturday (8 p.m.), Sunday (2 p.m.)

What: Arthur Miller's play set in an immigrant Italian neighborhood near the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

Price: $16 Adult, $14 Senior (62+), $14 Student (with ID)

4. Bubba's Belly Run

Where: The Bullis School, 10601 Falls Road, Potomac, MD 20854

When: Sunday, Sept. 25, 9:00 a.m.

What: The third annual Bubba's Belly Run is a 5k race held in honor of Captain Brian "Bubba" Bunting, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan in February 2009. All proceeds go directly towards supporting the families of the fallen.

Price: Adults: $25 on or before September 25; $30 on race day, Military/Veterans: $15 - $20 race day, Kids 12 and under: $10 - $15 race day

5. Maryland Renaissance Festival 

Where: Crownsville Road in Annapolis, MD.

When: Saturday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Continues on weekends through the end of October.

What: This outdoor festival presents a full-day outdoor theatrical reproduction of medieval England, complete with sword fights, pompous royalty, dirty serfs, games, jugglers, and turkey legs. There are roving shows, period merchants  and a lot of fun for families.

Price: $9 for ages 7-15; $19 for adults; $16 for seniors. Coupons and group rates are available on the website.
