Grab and Go Kids Planner: April 1-3

Where to take your kids for fun this weekend.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research to find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance with your kids this weekend.

Each week, we put together a weekly calendar of five kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children for the coming weekend.

When: Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m.

Why Go: QO's and crew present this classic kids story as a musical play. It's sure to be a lot fun for the kids in your life.

Pricing: $5 for elementary students & seniors, $8 for middle and high school students; $12 for adults

Where: , 2100 Wootton Pkwy., Rockville

When: Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 3 at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Students present the humorous musical adaptation of the children's story 'The Princess and the Pea.' Great for kids of all ages.

Pricing: $15 for reserved seats; $10 for general admission seats

3. SATURDAY MORNING STORYTIME AT BROOKSIDE GARDENS

Where: Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallan Avenue, Wheaton

When: Saturday, April 2, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (repeats every Saturday in April through June)

Why Go: For children 6 years old and under. Involve children in nature with seasonal stories that inspire imagination and creativity. Each week a different story will be read followed by a hands-on craft. No registration required. While you are there, visit the children’s garden exhibits that includes a tree house, a gnome hut, and play areas for “farming.”

4. STORYBOOK BALLET AND SORCERER'S APPRENTICE

Where: Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Road, Olney

When: Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Why Go: A great way to introduce your child to the art of ballet – on a budget. These shows are shorter than the full ballets at the larger performing arts centers. The Olney Ballet Theatre (OBT) presents the ballets, 'Storybook' and the 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' on the Historic Stage at the Olney Theatre Center.

Pricing: $12 for students and $20 for adults

5. MAGIC OF MUSIC: THE TRIUMPHANT TRUMPET

Where: Washington Conservatory of Music, 7300 MacArthur Blvd, Glen Echo

When: Saturday, April 2 at 3 p.m.

Why Go: Drew Owen is Musico the Magnificent (also a cellist and music teacher who performs with National Symphony and Washington National Opera). He and trumpet player Christopher Sala present this 50-minute show geared for children using magic tricks to explore all of the different music that comes from a Trumpet.
