Grab and Go Kids Planner: March 18 - 20

Five things to do with the kids this weekend.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research to find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance with your kids this weekend.

Each week, we put together a weekly calendar of five kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children for the coming weekend. Here are our picks for this coming weekend.

1. Bethesda Trolley Trail South Walk

Where: Knights of Columbus, Rock Creek Mansion, 5417 W. Cedar Lane, Bethesda

When: Saturday, March 19, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: The Seneca Valley Sugarloafers Volksmarch Club is sponsoring a Bethesda Trolley Trail South Walk The 10km trail, with a 5K option, which is an easy walk on sidewalks and paved trails which are able to accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. Registration starts at 8 a.m.

Pricing: Free for general public. $3 for those wishing to register for IVV credit.

2. 47th Annual Gem-Mineral-Fossil Show

Where: Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 16 Chestnut Street, Gaithersburg

When: Saturday, March 19 & Sunday, March 20, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Why Go: The Gem, Lapidary, & Mineral Society of Montgomery County creates a fun day for kids and other geology buffs every year. They have over 40 exhibits of rocks and gems, door prizes, demonstrations, workshops, free specimens for the Kids, free Kid's mini mine and a cool Fluorescent Minerals tent. Upstairs, vendors sell jewelry and special minerals.

Pricing: Free for kids 12 and under, $6 for teens and adults

3. 'Animal Crackers' by Bob Brown Puppets

Where: Poolesville Library, 17633 Fisher Ave, Poolesville

When: Saturday, March 19, 1 p.m.

Why Go: The Montgomery County Friends of the Library bring Master Puppeteer Bob Brown to the Poolesville Library. Mr. Brown presents his magical marionettes in a production of a short play for kids – 'Animal Crackers.'

4. Pink Party - Susan G. Komen Fundraiser

Where: St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, 15575 Germantown Road, Darnestown

When: Saturday, March 19, 1 to 4 p.m.

Why Go: A fun craft party to raise money in support of local walkers of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure®. Come and make one-of-a-kind hand-stamped greeting cards. Professional stampers will help you create your very own pink cards. There will be door prizes, raffles and refreshments.

Pricing: $25

5. Children's Talk and Tour of Strathmore

Where: Strathmore Arts Center, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, Rockville

When: Saturday, March 19, 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Why Go: Kids 5 years and older will get a tour of the facility and learn about the artists, content and creation of pieces in Strathmore's exhibitions. Each talk and tour includes an art-related story and art project. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Pricing: Free, but advance registration is required.
