South Germantown Park's Driving Range Gets a Makeover

Improvements and modernization come to golf driving range in Germantown.

“If you build it right, they will come,” said Dean Turnbull, manager of the South Germantown Recreational Park complex, which now includes a newly-renovated golf driving range.

Last October, Montgomery County Department of Parks took over the operation of the driving range and decided to spruce things up a bit.

Gone is the old shabby trailer and instead you’ll find a new modular clubhouse equipped with a sitting area and tables, front desk, and offices.

Gone are the worn out carpet mats now replaced with modern rubberized ones.

And gone is the creaky old ball dispenser that used tokens. In its place is a brand spanking new state-of-the-art ball management system that uses a debit style card, called a Range Ball Card which can be procured at the clubhouse desk.

Perhaps most importantly, and to the delight of the golfers, all of the old range balls have been replaced with top-end Nike balls.

While appearances have changed since last summer, the range still offers Golf 4 Kids Academy with summer camps and clinics, a bucket of balls is still pretty much the same price it was, and adults can still work with the pro to improve their swing.

The range is offering some specials this summer that include Early Bird Specials on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 7 to 9 a.m. where you can get a bucket of balls for half price.

Summer hours of operation, effective until Aug. 31, are Mon. through Fri. 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sat. and Sun. 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

They built it right. Now South Germantown Driving Range is looking good, and is ready for golfers to come out and work on their game.
