Week in Review: A Lawsuit, a Coyote and a Gas Leak

A wrap-up of top news stories this week in North Potomac and Darnestown.

This week started off with up-to-date news on the controversial . Casa de Maryland, an immigrants’ rights advocacy group, filed a lawsuit against the Maryland State Board of Elections, which certified enough petition signatures to place a new law granting illegal immigrants in-state college tuition rates to appear as a referendum on the 2012 general election ballot.

On the brighter side of things, the Washington Nationals officially opened in Germantown, a baseball field specially designed for physically and mentally impaired children. A slide show of the festivities is .

A construction crew damaged a gas line Wednesday sending 40 firefighters to a near . Firefighters gauged gas levels which remained at safe levels.

Reports of a surfaced Thursday morning. We learned from the Department of Natural Resources that coyotes are not typically dangerous to human beings and they live freely throughout the state.

There is an abundance of outdoor events this week and weekend, including the at the Universities of Shady Grove, which began Thursday. The festival benefits the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health.
