Week in Review for Aug. 7 to Aug. 13: Poolesville Elementary School Celebrates 50-Year Anniversary and Local Resident Reaches Poker Stardom.

Here is a review of some of the events we covered this past week.

On Sunday, we wrote a story about the Montgomery County Board of Education and the approving to open the county’s first public charter and Montessori school. Well-planned implementation and “superior” teaching methods led to its passage.

On Tuesday we reported on the Commissioners of Poolesville. They voted to ban alcohol at a company’s picnic and they granted Poolesville Elementary School an $800 grant for the school’s 50-year anniversary.

Wednesday, we told the story of a former Quince Orchard football star, Travis Hawkins who will be attending the University of Delaware this fall as a starter. He was a pivotal member of the Cougars’ 2007 state championship team.

Yesterday you heard how Potomac resident Joseph Ressler struggled to become a successful, professional poker player after the Federal Government cracked down on online poker sites.

And finally, you saw our photo slideshow of local news teams as they waited outside of Gary Giordano’s house on McDonald Chapel Drive in Gaithersburg—a suspect in the disappearance of Robyn Gardner. She was vacationing in Aruba when she suddenly went missing. News crews waited for the FBI to show up and search Giordano’s house for evidence.
