Week in Review: Week One of North Potomac-Darnestown Patch

Schools news and elections filled the week

We're less than a week old but already we've brought you over thirty stories on the North Potomac and Darnestown communities.

For anyone who still has questions about where the boundary lines are of North Potomac, Dan Drazan had the answers this week.

In North Potomac, residents of the Natia Manor neighborhood who attend Travilah Elementary School had their first Monday morning school bus ride. This came after their parents were successful in their appeals to get the decision to cut their bus route reversed.

We covered the primary elections on Tuesday. In District 15, Darnestown resident Aruna Miller will join incumbents Kathleen Dumais and Brian Feldman in the general election for House of Delegates in September. North Potomac resident Tony Puca lost the race to be a Democratic candidate for the House of Delegates in District 39.

Voter turnout in Montgomery County was the lowest in Maryland, with just 18 percent of those eligible casting a vote.  Even though few came out, Patch still met many new faces at polling stations around town, including many high school students who were volunteering. Education and the Science City development were some of the biggest issues motivating voters.

Montgomery County Parks announced that construction of Darnestown Square Heritage Park could begin as soon as this spring and they shared design plans with residents.

Recent construction at Jones Lane Elementary school had parents talking. This week we'll learn how plans for construction at Ridgeview Middle School will impact the students when the school holds a public meeting on Monday, Sept. 20.
