Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Srish was first introduced to the GeoBee several years ago when he saw his sister, now 12, win the competition at Stone Mill Elementary School.

He waited a few years until it was his turn and he entered the competition as soon as he was old enough - third grade. Despite being one of the youngest contestants, he still took home first place.

His mother, Anu Udayakumar said Srish was dedicated to the competition and studied for several weeks whenever he had free time.

"He really liked looking into maps and finding places to prepare for the competition," Anu said. "His father, sister and I all took turns quizzing him on different questions."

But Anu said it was Srish's enthusiasm that allowed him to achieve success in the competition and in other activities. He also plays several sports, including tennis and plays chess, Anu said.

"If he wants to do something he will try to do his best at it," she said. "But he was very humble, he didn't even say much after he won....He doesn't brag about it."
