Protest New Pepco "Opt-Out" Fees

No secret that thousands of us in the area opted to keep our old electric meters to avoid constant pulses of potentially cancer-causing radiation into our homes. Well, yesterday, I received a letter telling me that Pepco will be charging us a one-time $75 fee for NOT taking the Smart Meter. Then, monthly, we will be assessed a $14 charge for the inconvenience we are causing them. If you're in the same boat:

• Call Linda Heard at the Maryland Public Service Commission: 410-767-8043.They are logging the number of complaints, and are responsible for this mess. You can call Pepco, too, so they know you are P.O.-ed.
• Call or email your state delegate to jump on the PSC for approving this egregious gouge. Find your delegate here: http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/hsedist.html

For me, I downgraded my cable tv service to offset this new "lifestyle" expense that I deem imperative to the health of my family. With persistence, I hope to see a class action suit against Pepco and the PSC arise that will get us back our money.
