Police Searching For Suspect Involved in Car Accident, Attempted Break-In

Montgomery County Police are searching for a man who they say attempted to break into a Potomac house after fleeing the scene of a car accident in North Potomac on Wednesday night.

A police spokesperson said the suspect is believed to be a 38-year-old, 5-foot-8 man, who weighs approximately 150 lbs.

The suspect fled the scene of a car accident involving two cars at the intersection of Shady Grove Road and Traville Gateway Drive just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, police said.

Just before 9 p.m., Shashi Bellamkonda reported the suspect attempted to break into his home along the border of Potomac and North Potomac.

Bellamkonda described the incident on his blog.

"We had some friends over and were our usual selves joking chatting and generally making a lot of noise and then we decided to move from the Family room to the dining room. We heard the door sensor beep and that was unusual as everyone was right there," wrote Bellamkonda. "Looking into the family room we saw the deck door was slightly open and a stranger was standing there. He said his wife was beating him and he was running away from her."

Bellamkonda wrote that the man told him their children went to school together.

"I told him that I wanted him out of the house immediately." Bellamkonda wrote.

He called 911, but the suspect fled the hosue before the police arrived.

A police spokesperson said the suspect was being chased by officers when the attempted break-in occured.

Police have identified the suspect and are in the process of getting a warrant for his arrest.
