Poolesville Woman Killed in Weather-Related Crash

Police: Frances Cooke D'Anna, 52, tried to drive through standing water.

A Poolesville woman was killed after she lost control of her vehicle in standing water and crashed into a tree west of Germantown Monday night.

Around 9:40 p.m. Frances Cooke D’Anna, 52, drove her 2008 Hyundai Elantra through water on Darnestown Road, near Bucklodge Road, Montgomery County police said in a news release. The vehicle, traveling west, crossed the center line and the eastbound lane, hitting the tree, police said.

D’Anna died at the hospital, police said.

Her daughter, Lindsey Claire D’Anna, 18, of Poolesville, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers may remain anonymous.
