Quince Orchard Briefly Locked Down For Report Of Men With Weapons Outside School

Schools spokesman: The lockdown was precautionary and students were never in danger.

Quince Orchard High School was locked down briefly Friday afternoon for the report of two men with a weapon outside the school, Montgomery County Public Schools officials and Montgomery County police said.

Police received a call at 2:11 p.m. for a report of two men with a weapon outside the school, police spokeswoman Angela Cruz said. Officers stopped a vehicle with two subjects and are investigating, she said.

It appears bail bondsman were following a subject who may have pulled into the school parking lot, said Dana Tofig, an MCPS spokesman. The bondsmen, who carry weapons, got out of their car in search of the subject, Tofig said.

As a precaution, the school went into lockdown and police were called, Tofig said. The situation moved off campus almost immediately, he said.

"There was never any real danger to the school, but the school acted with an abundance of caution, as they should, to protect the students," Tofig said.

Cruz said she could not confirm if the incident involved bail bondsman or if a subject was actually spotted on the Quince Orchard campus.

Much ado about nothing.

Thank you for taking the precautions. It is not easy to make a quick decision that may prove disruptive. It is appropriate to take action and let the MCPD figure out the details. The professional staff at QO are not in law enforcement. Let the educators educate and the police do investigation and law enforcement. Jean Donaldson

I think the lockdown was very appropriate to this situation because quince orchard students could have been in danger. As we later found out that there was no danger, it was still a good thing that we did the lockdown, because we hadn't gotten the correct information yet.

The students are in more danger everyday by crossing the street. Every day I see hordes of students jaywalking across Route 28, running across against the light, and wandering in traffic. Yet two guys with a taser causes a lockdown!
