Thurgood Marshall Faculty Member Struck By Vehicle

Marie Doggett was struck by a vehicle while walking her dog the evening of Jan. 5.

Montgomery County police have identified the woman struck by a vehicle near the Gaithersburg school Thursday as Thurgood Marshall Elementary School staff member Marie Doggett, Sergeant Jennifer McNeal said.

Doggett was struck in the 16100 block of Orchard Grove Road while she was walking her dog, according to a letter sent to Ridgeview Middle School parents from PTSA President Julie Tittle.

Doggett’s son – Michael Doggett – is also a Montgomery County Public School teacher. He teaches sixth grade reading at Ridgeview, which is the middle school for students from Thurgood Marshall.

“At this time, the [Doggett] family can really use our prayers,” Tittle wrote in the letter to RMS parents sent Jan. 7. “They have been overwhelmed with outreach from their friends and the community as a whole.”

Tittle and Thurgood Marshall PTA President Heather Zindash will continue to provide updates and let the community know how they can help the Doggett family, according to the letter.

The Doggett family created a CaringBridge page for Marie where the family will post updates to her status and people can sign a guest book to offer her well wishes.

“We'd like to thank you for all the support we've received over the last couple of days,” Stephanie Doggett wrote on CaringBridge. “As Michael said last night, it means the world to us.”
