In Bowie, Increased Budget Could Cost Residents

If the FY 2013 budget increase is approved, user fees could go up for adult athletics and ice skating groups.

Bowie residents could be facing higher user fees for athletics fields and other city-run facilities if the the increase in the operating budget for FY 2013 is approved by the city council, reported the Gazette.

The proposed budget increase was unveiled during Monday's worksession by City Manager David Deutsch.

The Gazette reported that adult softball and kickball teams, group ice skating packages, and group rates at the city Ice Arena could all be subject to high fees, while other facilities, like the Allen Pond Pond park would restructure fees, but not increase them.

Bowie City Finance Director Rob Patrick was unaware of how much revenue the proposed increase would generate, he told the Gazette on Tuesday.

Bowie residents will have a chance to comment on the proposed budget during a public hearing scheduled for May 7 at city hall.

Too bad, esp. since the Bowie City Hall is almost as big as the White House which runs the whole country.

Really, L Stanle, as big as the whitehouse? Where is your pride of you community?

No one "likes" increased fees, but did you look at the cost of providing the services? All taxpayers in Bowie are subsidizing these recreational facilities because these fees don't cover the costs.
