Darnestown Population Sees Slight Growth, Change In Racial Makeup

The U.S. 2010 Census revealed Darnestown population is 80 percent white.

The population of Darnestown grew 6 percent over the last 10 years and became slightly more racially diverse.

Although Darnestown is still a large majority white, recently released data from the 2010 U.S. Census revealed that majority has slightly decreased. In 2000, 85 percent of Darnestown residents identified themselves as white, in 2010, that percentage has decreased to 80.

Asians now represent 11 percent of the population, up from 8 percent in 2000. The Hispanic or Latino population in Darnestown has increased more than 70 percent, though Hispanics are still a small minority of the Darnestown population. In 2000, Hispanics made of just over 3 percent of the population, now they represent 5 percent.

The number of residents who identify as black or African increased only slightly and remains about 4 percent of the population.

According to the Census, 6,802 people now live in Darnestown. In 2000, the population was 6,378.
