Germantown, Clarksburg Portions of Corridor Cities Transitway on Hold

State officials: Plans are moving ahead on the southern section of the bus route.

By Whitney Teal

Would-be transit riders in Montgomery County will have to wait, indefinitely, for the planned rapid bus route that would connect the upcounty to Metrorail, The Washington Post reported.

Plans for the 15-mile Corridor Cities Transitway will now focus on just the southern-most eight miles of the project, Maryland transportation officials told the newspaper. The first phase of the project would connect King Farm, the Kentlands and parts of Rockville and Gaithersburg, The Post reported.

The bus route was projected to ease traffic on Interstate 270,  Capital News Service has reported. Buses would travel from station to station in dedicated lanes and only encounter other vehicles at intersections.

The first eight miles will cost $545 million and is expected to open in 2020, pending full funding.
