Mary of Nazareth Awarded Funds from Harris Teeter

As part of the grocery store chain's Together in Education program, the Darnestown school received over $800.

Darnestown's school was one of ten area schools to receive an education donation from at the end of the school year.

On Friday, Harris Teeter announced that as part of its Together in Education program it had donated $631,233.70 to schools in a third round of donations for the 2010/2011 school year.

Mary of Nazareth, the K-8 private Roman Catholic school in Darnestown, received $804.47 in the third round, and a total of $4,274.90 during this school year.

The payouts are based on how much community members spent on Harris Teeter brand products and prescriptions. Participating shoppers must link their Harris Teeter VIC cards with a special code for the school in order to earn points for their school.

The program runs each school year from August to May.

According to a statement from Harris Teeter, a total of 4,557 schools participated in the Together in Education program this school year and a total of $1,542,706 was paid out.

Mary of Nazareth received the fourth highest amount of the participating schools in the D.C. area.
