North Potomac Students Become National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Quince Orchard and Wootton among district high schools with semifinalists

One student from Quince Orchard High School and 12 from Wootton High School have become National Merit Scholarship semifinalists in the 2012 competition. The students became semifinalists by being the top scorers on the 2010 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test which they take as high school juniors.

Now, in order to compete for the National Merit Scholarships, they must keep up their grades and make high marks on their SAT tests. Each student also must complete an application with an essay and get recommendations from their school's teachers or administrators.

Finalists will be considered for $2,500 scholarships from the National Merit Corporation as well as additional corporate-sponsored and college/university-sponsored scholarships.
