Poolesville Commissioners to Meet Tonight

A discussion of Poolesville Elementary School's 50-year anniversary is one of the issues on the agenda.

The commissioners of Poolesville will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at 19721 Beall Street to discuss a variety of issues concerning the immediate area.

The discussions will cover the rest of the 2011 fiscal year (as well as a revisit of last year’s budget), a potential alcohol permit, Poolesville Elementary School’s 50th anniversary, a possible parking ordinance and the election of a new Planning Commission member, according to Town Clerk Bobbie Evans.

The alcohol permit discussion will likely include prohibiting alcohol for a company planning to hold a summer picnic at a local park, Evans said.

As Poolesville Elementary School prepares for its 50th anniversary, the school is seeking helping from the commissioners for a grant that would allow the school to fund its Sept. 27 parade. The school would use the grant to support a float, a mascot, a field day and an elementary school showcase (a band, chorus or dance group).

The commissioners will also discuss a possible new parking ordinance  for the areas in Poolesville that have had issues with vehicles parked on the sides of roads and streets. Evans said this ordinance discussion is important because of concerns that parking on the sides of roads leaves unsightly and potentially hazardous mud tracks around the area.

The commissioners will also discuss a vacancy on the Planning Commission. Two candidates have applied for the job so far. Voting and interviews will occur tonight for the candidates, but nothing will be finalized until Aug. 22, the next commission meeting.
