Monday Sports Roundup: Basketball Playoff Seedings and Wrestling Video

The playoff schedule for Montgomery County basketball is released, Wootton ice hockey eliminated, and a QO wrestler wins counties.

Boys' Varsity Basketball

The regular season is over in boys' and girls' varsity basketball and playoffs are set to start this week.

Wootton (13-9) is the No. 4 seed in the 4A West division and will meet unranked Walter Johnson (10-9) Friday at home. Walter Johnson is one of the 13-team region's three unseeded teams with a winning record, according to The Gazette.

The winner of Wootton-WJ will face the winner of Blair-Richard Montgomery on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Quince Orchard (6-15) will meet Northwest, with the winner facing No. 1 Magruder (20-1).

Varsity Ice Hockey

The Wootton Patriots were eliminated last Tuesday in the semifinals of the Montgomery Hockey Conference tournament by Whitman, 2-1. Whitman went on to defeat Churchill in the finals and advance to the state quarterfinals.

Varsity Wrestling

Quince Orchard's Eli Bienstock won the Montgomery County wrestling championship in the 120-pound weight class, defeating Sherwood's Chris Minor.
